About this event


Forest Grove Swim Club (FGSC) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization hosting a USAT Mini Triathlon called FGSC Dragon Dash & Mini Tri. An event that combines swimming, biking and running for ages 1 – 99.  


With our focus on fun and participation over competition - we want to introduce youth to how great the multisport life is. Join us on Saturday, July 27, 2024 for an exclusive pre-registered event for up to 150 participants. Families and friends are encouraged and welcome to attend. All participants will receive a finishers medal.

3 Event Waves & Times:
For the safety of all participants, each wave is designed for ability level, potential skill sets, speed, and ultimately support the volume of swimmers, bikers, and runners at a given time.

Advanced @ 8:30AM
Novice @ 8:45AM
Family @ 9AM

About the Race & Race Routes:
Offering three waves per ability levels allowing an array of age participation.
Ages 5 and Under participate in the Family wave [no exceptions]
Ages 6 and Older are able to participate in either Novice or Advanced waves dependent on their ability level.

Swim – Participants start at the pool [Forest Grove Aquatic Center]
Move to transition area to prep [Forest Grove Aquatic Center parking lot]
Bike – Perimeter of Pacific University track & Lincoln Park

Run – Perimeter of FG Aquatic Center & Pacific University parking lot 

Ability Levels and Details:
Advanced = Swim: 250 yards, Bike = 2 miles, Run = 1 mile
Swimming:  10 laps Forest Grove Aquatic Center swim lanes
Biking: 3 loops on perimeter of Pacific University track and Lincoln Park
Running: 2 loops on perimeter of Forest Grove Aquatic Center including Pacific University parking lot

Novice = Swim: 100 yards, Bike = 0.78 miles, Run = 0.5 miles
Swimming: Forest Grove Aquatic Center pool perimeter
Biking: 1 loop on perimeter of Pacific University track and Lincoln Park
Running: 1 loop on perimeter of Forest Grove Aquatic Center including Pacific University parking lot

Family = Swim: 100 yards, Bike = 0.78 miles, Run = 0.5 miles

Registration:
Online pre-registration is required. No event day registration permitted.
In order to be environmentally conscious, all necessary information and materials will be provided digitally at the end of your online registration. Email will include each participant's unique QR code, valuable event day information, and FAQs. Be prepared to have the required documents either printed or a digital screenshot available on your phone.

Day of Race Check-In Documents Required:
Several documents are needed in order to check-in on event day.
IMPORTANT: This is not a drop-off event and requires an adult/parent/guardian present throughout the time participant is onsite. 

Participants Required Items – Bring with You:
Event electronic ticket with QR code – print or screenshot via phone
Proof of 1-day USAT Insurance – print or screenshot via phone
Participant Wavier completed electronically
Required Swim Equipment – Swim suit, goggles, and towel
Required Bike Equipment – Bike, shorts/pants, and shoes
Required Run Equipment – Socks, shorts/pants, running shoes, optional hat/visor

Confirmation Email with QR code – Please have your QR code ready. Either print or screenshot before you arrive on event day as we cannot guarantee a strong internet connectivity with so many people onsite at the same time. This will allow you to check-in faster & reduce wait times & help you move on to the fun.

Proof of 1-day USAT Insurance – Print or have screenshot via phone. Again, please remember to do this before you arrive as we cannot guarantee strong internet connectivity. IMPORTANT: it is required to purchase & show proof of insurance for each participant. Failure to provide proof will disqualify a participant from participating – no exceptions.

Check-in Booth
All participants are required to stop at the check-in booth on race day during the specified check-in timeframe from 7AM-8AM. Volunteers will notate vital race day information on each participant’s arm and leg [participant #, wave, and assigned transition area]. Information will be needed throughout event day.

Check-in time serves as the singular opportunity for all participants to check-in simultaneously before the event. It is imperative to adhere to designated check-in time, as no additional check-in opportunity will be available. Your punctual attendance ensures a smooth and timely commencement of the event for all participants.   

Be one of the first 100 participants to register and you will receive a goody bag filled with but not limited to: USA Triathlon swim cap, FGSC dragon tattoo, coupons, etc. Goody bag is to be picked up at check-in during event day. 


Safety & Pre-Race meeting
For your safety and others, all participants are required to attend the Safety & Pre-Race meeting @ 8:15AM at the pool area. The designated area will be labeled as bullpen. If you for any reason are unable to attend the Safety & Pre-Race meeting, your participation will be forfeited [no exceptions].

Transition Area
After check-in, participants will be moved to the transition area. The information on participant’s arm will help volunteers guide participants to their assigned transition area. Participants will drop off personal belongings needed for each leg of the event [swim + bike + run]. Volunteers will help direct participants to and from transition areas. IMPORTANT: Only participants are permitted in transition areas which includes before, during and after event concludes.


Spectator Areas
All designated spectator areas will be clearly marked for both Forest Grove Aquatic Center & Pacific University facility grounds. IMPORTANT: For the safety of all participants, spectators are not permitted in transition areas or event paths which includes before, during and after event concludes.

Families and friends are encouraged and welcome to attend. If for any reason the participant needs help or be contacted, seek a volunteer for assistance.  Spectators are required to move with their participants throughout the event.

Spectator Areas Assigned:
Swim: Assigned spectator area inside by pool
Bike: Assigned spectator area in grass area – alongside paved path
Run: Assigned spectator area in grass area – alongside sidewalk

Once the run portion concludes, participants are welcome to depart.
Reminder – return to transition area to pick up all personal items.


Parking: Parking will be very LIMITED. To ensure participant & spectator safety throughout the event, Forest Grove Aquatic Center parking lot will be dedicated & restricted space. Therefore, please use Pacific University campus parking including surrounding street parking. 


Weather: FGSC Dragon Dash and Mini Tri is a rain or shine event. If needed, a slight modification to the running portion may be permitted to accommodate.

Post-Race Information
After the run portion is concluded, each participant will be awarded a finisher medal. Feel free to take pictures throughout the event and for those who enjoy posting on social media, please use any of the following: #FGSCDragonDashMiniTri

Can participants bring a floatation device to use in the swimming portion?
Yes, for the safety of all swimmers yet depending on skill level.
For Advanced wave, no floatation device is permitted. Ability level requires swimmers to independently swim 250 yards in swim lanes [10 laps].
For both Novice and Family waves, approved floatation devices can be used. Must either be a Coast Guard approved life jacket or a kickboard.
Forest Grove Aquatic center has a very limited supply. No other types of floatation devices will be permitted.


Does my child have to be a competitive swimmer?
Great question! All participants should know the basic rules of being in a pool and each wave expectations are listed below.
Advanced Wave: Participants must swim independently for 250 yards. Swim lanes will be set up to swim 10 laps.
Novice & Family Waves: Participants swim path will be along the perimeter of the pool.  Participants do have an opportunity to quickly rest throughout the duration of their event. In the event participants are in need a floatation device, feel free to bring a Coast Guard approved life jacket or a kickboard. 


Is there an option for pre-packet or day-of packet pickup?
Online pre-registration is required. No event day registration permitted.

Can I invite friends/family/neighbors/community to spectate at the FGSC Dragon Dash & Mini Tri? Definitely! Families and friends are encouraged and welcome to spectate. All spectators will be expected to move from one spectator area to another to watch their participants throughout the events. As a reminder, no new registrations will be available on event day.


Can I visit with my participant during the event?
All designated spectator areas will be clearly marked for both Forest Grove Aquatic Center & Pacific University facility grounds. For the safety of all participants, spectators are not permitted in transition areas or any of the participants' event paths. IMPORTANT: Only participants are permitted in transition areas which includes before, during and after the event concludes.

Is there a possibility for a refund as I no longer can make the event?
Sorry to hear that you are no longer able to make the event. Unfortunately, there is no option for refund as we have allocated only 150 pre-registered participants. 


If I’m no longer able to make the event, can I provide the ticket to someone else?
As much as we would enjoy having another participant fulfill your pre-registered ticket purchase, we’re unable to change any registration information of a participant, parent, and/or legal guardian.


Will I receive a completion medal?
Indeed! All finishers will receive a completion medal.


If I find or lose an item, where can I find it?
If you find or lose an item, look for the Volunteer Check-in booth. This booth will only be available during the event day. If you leave an item behind, it will be housed at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center for a month. If no owners, all items are donated.
